Van-X Professional Driver Centre provides programs designed according to the needs of the trainee, providing him or her with the training required to be a successful applicant.

The one and two week programs are geared toward, but not exclusive to owners/operators (farm, construction, oil services, etc.) who require upgrading to a 1A license.

The three week program is ideal for inexperienced drivers who are interested in pursuing work as a Professional Operator. This unique program, unlike most others offered in the province, will introduce the student to hands on city driving immediately the first Monday of the course and continues each day through to the end of the program.

Items included in the program are:

  • City Driving
  • Long Highway Trips
  • Pre-Trip (Certified)
  • Brake Adjustment (Certified)
  • Coupling & Un-coupling
  • Air Brakes (Certified)
  • Log Books
  • Border Crossing
  • Dangerous Goods

Driver Training is ultimately one of the most cost-effective means of producing better, safer, more productive and more dedicated drivers. Driver Training schools are an excellent resource for potential employers because the schools provide candidates who have been exposed to the basic principles of driving and who have shown interest in their work. However, it should be remembered that Driver Training schools should be seen as a means to an end and not as a substitute for on job training.

At Van-X, we are dedicated to keeping tractor-trailer training at its highest level. We are Saskatchewan's premier Upgrading Program. We have been in operation since 1967 and have always been located in Yorkton.

Our course is designed to upgrade experienced (3 axle) operators who are familiar with shifting in higher gears and are able to double clutch. We provide the practical experience and classroom theory needed to pass S.G.I. requirements for 1A vehicles.

Alternative training is available for those students who have some prior driving experience but are limited to single axle operation (5 speed or 5 & 2 transmissions).

The course runs Monday through to Friday with evening classes included. The classroom training covers a Certificate Air Brake Course, Dangerous Good Course, Defensive Driving Course, Vehicle Inspection Course and Border Crossing information (certificates upon completion). Driving trips begin Monday and involve 3 to 4 trips daily with hands-on wheel time. Our Yard instruction covers pre-trip inspections, coupling and uncoupling, as well as Air Testing. We also include in-service shop training, which involves brake adjustment, component checks and wind-off, all of which are done on the vehicles. Testing is held on Friday and is conducted by S.G.I.
